Designed for men who wish to test their boundaries by taking on challenges with other men — challenges that have a 50% chance of failure. By embracing adversity, our fears fade and we go beyond what we ever imagined.
For many of us, our default purpose in life is to build a comfortable lifestyle that minimises risks and maximises pleasure. We embark on a career, build material wealth, provide for our family — and then what? For some of us, there remains a nagging feeling that we haven't fully tapped our physical and mental potential.
When taking on wild adventures with other men, you will experience something quite profound: the renewing and transformative effects of physical challenges, nature and fellowship.
The bonds you form with other men will lift your spirits and strengthen you in life. You become part of a growing community of like-minded men that fosters connections and plans new adventures.
Forget the uninterrupted hour at the desk. On these adventures you will experience the real flow state — going past your physical boundaries, pushing beyond pain into a pleasurable state, highly attuned to your surroundings.
You can design your own challenge with friends or be assigned to a team of 4-8 men. Every 50/50 challenge follows a structured path: the preparation, the adventure and the transformation.
3-6 months of physical and mental preparation. Training programs include individual and group sessions, monitoring of progress, guidance on injury prevention and nutrition. Monthly video calls and dinners build team cohesion and anticipation. Closer to the challenge, attention shifts to mental preparation and logistics.
From hiking in summer to ski touring in winter. Adventures are tailored to group ability, often designed to get from point A to B within a certain timeframe. Staged anywhere in Australia — Tasmania, the Snowy Mountains — or overseas in New Zealand, Nepal, Switzerland. Full logistical support provided.
The preparation and the adventure are the catalysts for the personal transformation that follows. You become part of a growing community of like-minded men that fosters connections, offers support to one another and plans new adventures.
Adventures are tailored to group ability and can incorporate different challenges. From iconic Tasmanian tracks to Australia's premier alpine route to the longest trail in NSW. The 50/50 Club also has exclusive access to a Swiss Alpine Chalet from where various challenges can be launched.
82km · 2,200m vertical · 3 days
An iconic track through the centre of Tasmania, passing the famous Cradle Mountain. Typically done as a multi-day hike with optional extras including climbing Cradle Mountain. 3-4 months preparation.
130km · 3,500m vertical · 3-4 days
Australia's premier alpine route, passing eight peaks in excess of 2,000m. Can be done with cross country skis in winter or as a hike. Many points of historical interest along the trek.
250km · 8,400m vertical · 3 days
The longest track in NSW, extending from Sydney to Newcastle. Following rivers and waterways through typical Aussie bushland with many technical and hilly sections.
In addition to physical preparation, participants read The Comfort Crisis by Michael Easter. The author describes his own journey of embracing discomfort to break out of his comfortable existence.
At monthly catch-ups there is time for discussion about this idea and why we are undertaking the challenge. Self-reflection exercises are recommended in the build-up and during the challenge. We also discuss mental strategies on how to approach and undertake the challenge.
The 50/50 Club is more than a physical test. It will change your outlook on life, lift your horizons, deepen your purpose and give you confidence in other aspects of life.
The 50/50 Club is hosted by me, Peter Kaldor.
Adversity and survival are in my genes. My grandfather was one of only three survivors from his unit of 200 men who marched 4,000 kilometres on the Eastern Front in WWII. After the war, my father's family escaped Hungary on foot. As newly arrived migrants in Australia, they worked very hard to build a future for the next generations. I am one of the very grateful beneficiaries.
With the benefit of peace and prosperity, I have found my outlet for adventure in the mountains — in my youth as an alpine ski racer on the slopes of Europe, and in mid-life as an ultramarathon runner. I have completed over 30 ultras, most recently setting a world record for my age by running 43 hours in a backyard ultra. Apart from testing my boundaries in races, I love hiking in the mountains and on trails, feeling the elements and absorbing the surroundings.
I'm excited to share my passion for tough, endurance-style adventures with other men. I'm convinced you can go further and push past any limitations you have self-imposed. The exhilaration you'll experience will transfer into other areas of life, giving you the confidence to tackle diverse challenges.
Get in touch and tell us about yourself. An assessment will be made of your experience level and current fitness.
Suggest a challenge you've had your eye on or sign up for one of the alternative options. Convince a few friends to join you and/or join a cohort assembled for you.
Once the adventure is locked in, we agree on the date and move to the preparation phase. Your journey begins.
